The Super Eights Qualifiers got underway this weekend with seven games standing between six sides and their Super League and Championship futures. For two sides there will be an extra eighth game, the Million Pound Match, where the winner takes all in terms of promotion.

Warrington Travelled to Widnes on Friday night, with games between Featherstone Rovers and Leigh Centurions and the Catalans Dragons and London Broncos on Saturday afternoon. The remaining fixture between Hull KR and Halifax was a Sunday afternoon kick-off.

Hughes got an early opening try for the Wolves after just three minutes and Patton added the conversion. Buchanan on fourteen and Mellor on thirty put Widnes 12-6 ahead at the break and a White penalty goal on forty-seven pushed the lead out to eight points. Warrington then found their feet and second half tries from Lineham, Patton, Russell and Hiku sealed a 28-12 Wolves victory.

Leigh Centurions recorded a 38-12 win away at Featherstone Rovers in the Saturday afternoon game while London Broncos pushed the Catalans Dragons all the way in losing 18-20 in the south of France.

There was almost an opening round shock at Hull KR where the visitors Halifax gave the hosts a real scare. KR had a great start to the game with two Moss tries in the opening seven minutes before Heaton scored a try for Halifax, converted by Tyrer on ten minutes for 8-6. On sixteen Marsh scored for KR, converted by Ellis for 14-6 but two more tries for Heaton before half time gave Halifax a 16-14 lead at the interval. Heaton got his fourth try of the afternoon on fifty-one which was converted by Tyrer for a 22-14 lead. KR showed composure and struck back through tries from Lawler, on sixty-three, and Scruton, on seventy-four which were both converted by Ellis to give the home side a 26-22 win.
